At the Global Voices Citizen Media Summit 2015, our community of bloggers, activists, social media experts and geeks from around the globe will discuss the open Internet, online civic movements and human rights in the digital age. In interactive sessions, panels, and debates, we will delve into complex issues ranging from digital surveillance to multilingualism online to legal threats against bloggers and activists—all challenges that lie at the core of much of what we do as a community, and of the future of the Internet.

We are offering up to ten travel grants to help defray the costs of getting to and from Cebu for netizens from other regions of the Philippines. (Please note: for netizens living in and around Cebu City, we will offer a similar opportunity that only includes free admission to the Summit.)

The grant includes:

  • A full two-day conference pass to the Global Voices Summit
  • Full or partial subsidy to cover the cost of transportation to Cebu and accommodations of up to three nights during the Summit period

Each selected candidate will be responsible for making his or her travel and lodging arrangements. Winners will be reimbursed during on the second day of the Summit on presentation of receipts.

To apply:

Please fill out this short form and answer the two essay questions below. It is the responsibility of each applicant to research the costs for transport and/or local lodging. We ask that you be as realistic as possible regarding the amount of travel assistance you would need, so that we can offer as many grants as possible. Deadline is December 20 November 30, 2014 at 23:59 (local Philippines time).

A committee of Global Voices community members will review the applications and select the winners. Winners will be notified by December 23, 2014.
